Between 08:00 and 09:00 by INAH's advice, on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and outside the spring equinox, which drew 38,103 visitors over 20 to 22 March 2026; for balloons, WeFly names November to April as the more stable months.
Between 08:00 and 09:00, by INAH’s advice, on a Tuesday or Wednesday, and outside the spring equinox. The gates open at 08:00 and the hottest hours are 11:30 to 15:30.
The INAH visitor guide lists four crowd tips. Arrive between 08:00 and 09:00, go on a Tuesday or Wednesday, avoid the spring equinox and start at the Ciudadela. For a balloon flight, WeFly names November to April.
08:00, when the gates open: INAH asks you to arrive between 08:00 and 09:00. Last entry is 16:30 and the archaeological zone closes at 17:00. The hottest hours are 11:30 to 15:30, so walk in the morning. INAH tells you to bring sunscreen, a hat and a reusable bottle.
Water is sold at entrance 3 and the Museum of Teotihuacan Culture. The three site museums open 09:00 to 16:00 and your ticket covers them. The Ciudadela, where INAH says to start, lies inside Gate 1, Puerta 1 on INAH’s map. The Avenue of the Dead, the Calzada de los Muertos, runs 2 km north to the Plaza of the Moon.
By the sun: in at Gate 1 at 08:00, the Ciudadela by 09:00, the Plaza of the Moon by 11:30, the museum at Gate 5 in the heat.
Tuesday or Wednesday: INAH names those two days as quieter, and the gates open all 7 days, 08:00 to 17:00. Public holidays are open days too. INAH counts almost 2 million visitors a year.
Sunday is free for Mexican nationals and foreign residents with proof, so the gates are busier. On the other days they pay MX$105 with an ID. International visitors pay MX$210 every day. The tickets page has the exemptions.
Buses from Mexico City stop at Gate 1 and Gate 2; the return bus leaves from Gate 2. The getting there page has the routes.
November to April for a balloon flight: WeFly names those 6 months as the ones with more stable weather and less rain. Vuelos en Globo MX names spring and autumn as the more stable seasons. It flies every day of the year, and the archaeological zone is open 365 days. The only date INAH tells you to avoid is the spring equinox.
Flights are at dawn. WeFly checks you in at 05:30 and flies from 07:00 to 08:00. Flying Pictures tells you to dress warmly for the early start and low temperatures. On 1 February 2026 El Universal reported strong gusts and abrupt wind changes from cold front 32.
Vuelos en Globo MX lists Christmas, New Year, Holy Week, Easter, July and August as its high season. The balloons page has the operators, prices in MXN and rules.
Yes, and INAH itself tells you to: from Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March 2026 the zone counted 38,103 visitors. The 2025 count was 36,255. INAH ran its special operation on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026, with the gates open from 07:00 on the Saturday. Both site museums were closed on the two days.
The operation banned drones and any activity on the platforms. It sent the crowds to the plazas of the Moon and the Sun. Backpacks, suitcases, chairs, blankets, speakers and beach umbrellas were banned at the gates. Climbing the Pyramid of the Sun was banned, as on every day of 2026. The dates and hours change each year.
INAH recommends 3 to 5 hours on site. An 08:00 start at Gate 1 puts the 2 km of the Avenue behind you before 11:30. The time page has the trails by length, and the early access tours are the ones timed for the 08:00 opening.
Between 08:00 and 09:00, the window INAH gives for avoiding the crowds. The gates open at 08:00, last entry is 16:30 and the zone closes at 17:00. The hottest hours are 11:30 to 15:30, so walk the Avenue of the Dead first and keep the museums, open 09:00 to 16:00, for the heat. Bring sunscreen, a hat and a reusable bottle; water is sold at entrance 3 and the Museum of Teotihuacan Culture.
Sunday is the free day for Mexican nationals and foreign residents with proof, so the gates are busier than on the other six days. INAH names Tuesday and Wednesday as the quieter days. International visitors pay MX$210 on every day of the week, and nationals and residents MX$105 with an ID from Monday to Saturday. The zone is open 08:00 to 17:00 every day and counts almost 2 million visitors a year.
INAH tells you to avoid it. From Friday 20 to Sunday 22 March 2026 the zone counted 38,103 visitors, against 36,255 in 2025. During the operation of 21 and 22 March 2026 both site museums were closed, backpacks and chairs were banned at the gates, and the Pyramid of the Sun stayed closed to climbing. The gates opened at 07:00 on the Saturday. The dates and hours change each year.
November to April, the months WeFly names as more stable with less rain. Vuelos en Globo MX names spring and autumn as the stable seasons and flies every day of the year. Flights are at dawn: WeFly checks in at 05:30 and flies from 07:00 to 08:00, and Flying Pictures tells you to dress warmly for the low temperatures. In late January and early February 2026 cold front 32 brought strong gusts, El Universal reported.
